discipline is the ability to control your own intensity (AKA: lock in). This isn’t toughness. It’s about knowing when to work, when not to work, and being consistent in doing so

there are 5 parts to that:

  • the intelligence to reason why you should care (nature)
  • the willpower to remain consistent (nature)
  • the initiative to engage in new routines (nature)
  • the love to sacrifice in spite of hardship (nurture)
  • the perspective to know what works with you and against you (nurture)
