pragmatism is the ground you stand on, hope is what you reach for
to be successful in anything, you can’t have one without the other. Hope without pragmatism is naivety and arrogance. Pragmatism with hope is pessimism
fake it till you make it run it till you become it
my 5’7 ass is not becoming an NBA player in this lifetime
but with areas in life where I cannot cast the same doubt, that’s where I make a projection:
- I want to do a thing
- I predict that thing will take x amount of effort (this is pragmatism)
- what resources do i have for this effort? (this is also pragmatism)
- do i have the time?
- do i have the financial stability?
- do i have the natural inclination for this thing?
- is this what i truly want? (or better yet—need?)
- I weigh the potential rewards against the odds of success, and if favorable, make a calculated risk (this is hope)
- I say fuck all to everything else and put everything i have into that thing (this is also hope)
