welcome
hi, i’m Joey, and i’m a 29 year old developer based out of Washington State, USA
engineers are at their best when they understand complexity in depth. Artists are at their best when the depth of their process defies understanding. But the same skills that make an engineer great can hinder the abilities of an artist, and vice versa
one thing both vocations have in common is a rich inner world of thoughts. So, i’ve setup this digital garden as a way to expose those thoughts to the outer world as i learn to integrate both skillsets. The most creative, prolific people i’ve met don’t keep their energy bottled up inside of them
while I don’t write many technical notes here, this isn’t just a personal website or a blog. Every article is a work in progress that i’m reflecting upon and refining (at least, while I’m alive). You can learn more about how i’ve set this up here
many go fishing all their lives without knowing that it is not fish they are after —Henry David Thoreau
i also think of this as my proof of stake in the human experience. If all the heavy lifting is done by AI in the future, what else can we leave the world with?
navigation
the recent notes pane is the best way to see what I’m working on. Or you can click on links in the notes themselves. Notes are also tagged so i can navigate my own work better and see connecting patterns
- the structure of each note is hashed as an essay, list, or freeform
- the formality of each note is either personal, reflection, outline, documentation, or ditty depending on how serious or personal I consider it
- i write about lots of subjects. Sometimes, several at the same time, including humans, tech, culture, creation, survival, business, maturity, and dhamma (AKA: “spirituality“). I’m absolutely not an expert in any of these domains, i’m just obsessively learning about them. I’ve indexed a lot of my favorite ideas in nuggets of wisdom
work
- AI Infrastructure on the GKE team at Google
- previously worked at a clean energy technology company
- co-founded Clearvote
- i’ve worked as a restaurant server and bartender for 6 years
- i’ve worked in a lumber mill, a medical equipment factory, and a grocery store
- going way back… i used to lifeguard (I know CPR)
- resume
your thoughts don’t define you. All my writings here are just a snapshot of who i am
~Joey
